Sienna Miller to star in G.I. Joe UPDATED By Charley, (DT) November 19, 2007 10:58 PM PT

Sienna Miller has signed on to play the female lead in the upcoming childhood-memories-ruined-before-filming-begins adaptation of G.I. Joe, which is scheduled for a 2009 release. To date, Miller is the only casting officially announced for the live-action film based on the toys, comics, and animated TV series. Variety reports that Miller will play a character "described as a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage." Update: Based on that description I shouldn't have needed to read this elsewhere. Apparently my G.I. Joe synaptic relays have severely eroded. The character Miller will be playing is the Cobra lieutenant actually called Baroness. Duh. The more astute among you probably already figured that out, though. Carry on. The film will be directed by Stephen Sommers, the man behind the Mummy films and that destined-to-be-classic stinker Van Helsing. Screenwriters on the project are listed on IMDb as Stuart Beattie (30 Days of Night) and Skip Woods (Hitman, Swordfish)
