Jennifer Garner in Talks for Ricky Gervais Comedy By Charley, (DT) November 19, 2007 10:15 PM PT |
Jennifer Garner is in negotiations to star in the upcoming Ricky Gervais comedy This Side of the Truth, reports Variety. Garner would play a woman who is seduced by Gervais' character in the hyper-realistic film. Okay, there's more to it than that. The film is set in a world where lies don't exist, and the character played by Gervais somehow figures out how to be dishonest. And what he does with that ability is what any frumpy straight man would do if all it took was a lie: He hooks up with Jennifer Garner.Gervais is the creative genius behind the British (original) version of The Office and the HBO series Extras. In front of the camera, he starred in both of those TV series and has had roles in films such as For Your Consideration and Night at the Museum. He was also in an episode of Alias, the TV series for which Garner is probably most known, particularly for those of us who wish to pretend Elektra doesn't exist. But can she do comedy? She was in Dude, Where's My Car? and Mr. Magoo (both of which are movies that probably have ardent supporters on either side of the funny/unfunny debate). She was great in 13 Going on 30. Um, that's what I heard, at least. She's also had guest roles on sitcoms and hosted SNL (did anyone who cares to comment see that episode?). She's definitely known more for her dramatic roles, but sometimes those are the actors who surprise you in comedies. Would Jennifer Garner be good in a Ricky Gervais comedy? What do you think? |
