DreamWorks buys Woody Allen Film

DreamWorks has acquired domestic distribution rights to Woody Allen's "Small Time Crooks." The deal for the rights closed at about $12 million.?"Crooks" was budgeted at about $30 million.?A return to the farcical flavor of films like "Take the Money and Run," "Crooks" chronicles the misadventures of an ex-con dishwasher (Allen) and his manicurist wife (Tracey Ullman) as they plan to hit the big-time with a bank heist.?Hugh Grant, Michael Rapaport and Elaine May also star.?The picture is set for a release in the second quarter of 2000.?The deal marks the second time that Allen has worked with DreamWorks; he lent his voice to "Antz." It is also the sixth studio to distribute one of Allen's films in the last 8 years.?This year's "Sweet and Lowdown" was released by Sony Pictures Classics.
