MTV is being investigated by the Justice Department for alleged antitrust activities, the Wall Street Journal reported today (Wednesday).?The newspaper quoted Jennifer Rose, a spokeswoman for the department's antitrust division as saying, "We are looking at the possibility of potentially anticompetitive practices involving music-video networks." According to the WSJ, the department is looking at a range of alleged violations, including demands that record companies give the MTV Networks exclusive rights to music videos, thereby shutting out potential rivals.?A spokesperson for Viacom, the parent company of MTV Networks, said that the company is cooperating fully with the investigation.
