Rick Danko, the famed bass player for the The Band, who appeared with the group in Martin Scorsese's documentary The Last Waltz and The Who documentary The Kids Are Alright and as an actor in the 1986 film Man Outside, died at his home in New York on Friday, the day after his 56th birthday.?Cause of death was not determined.?Danko reportedly had suffered from numerous health problems in recent years, many of them apparently related to drug abuse.?Two years ago he was arrested in Japan on charges of attempting to smuggle heroin into the country; he received a suspended sentence.
