x-men 320th Century Fox has contracted Simon Kinberg (upcoming films "Elektra," "Fantastic Four," "Mr. and Mrs. Smith") to pen a script for the third installment of "X-Men," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original filims were penned by various people, among which only Bryan Singer (who directed both) and David Hater ("The Scorpion King") were credited for both movies.

Kinberg said that "X-Men 3" still has no set story line, but he is a "religious reader of the ('X-Men') comics."

After Singer's falling out with 20th Century Fox last summer, the franchise will need to find another director. ?Ain't it Cool News reports that Joss Whedon (TV's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") is in talks with the studio to direct "X-Men 3," though no deal has been made.
