Jack Black ("School of Rock") has signed to play the Green Lantern in a comedic adaptation that is being compared to "The Mask," which starred Jim Carrey. ?DC Comics was against the idea, but ultimately had no right to refuse once WB had the option, reports Ain't it Cool News. Fans (including the AICN team) are reluctant to accept a "zany comedy version" of "Green Lantern" that stars Jack Black, but WB, in its infinite wisdom, is likely banking on the teen pleaser Black to draw a crowd of people who may or may not even be familiar with the comic book series. Black, for his part, is a terrific comedic actor and his presence in the movie will probably bring in the money. ?It's just too bad that the opinions of DC Comics and the comic book fans are not worth more in the eyes of the big studios.
