McG off SUPERMAN!!! Updated! By Charley, (DT) July 11, 2004 10:13 PM PT |

Director McG ("Charlie's Angels") is officially off of the new "Superman" movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter. ?WB has listed McG as the director all along, but rumors have been far and wide regarding who would be directing the man of steel, particularly after an internet rumor linked Michael Bay to the project. ?A spokesperson confirmed that McG is out, but who will replace him? According to the trade, the WB spokesperson claimed that McG and the studio parted amicably. ?The reason for the change is several disagreements between the studio and the director. ?Shooting location and casting were chief among those. As of this posting, no director has officially been chosen to replace McG, but it is being speculated that the previous rumor may have been a premature press release. ?The IMDB "Superman" page seems to think so. ?That does not prove it is true, considering that any registered user can affect that database, but it might be a preview of news to come. UPDATE: A few web sites are reporting that WB has approached several people with the intention to talk directing. ?Beside Michael Bay, the list is as follows: ?Bryan Singer ("X-Men" series), Robert Rodriguez ("Desperado"), Jonathon Frakes ("Thunderbirds" [upcoming]), Rob Cohen ("XXX"), and David Goyer ("Batman Begins" writer). ?Again, no one is set in stone, but it would be surprising to see Bay at the helm, considering his comments about "Superman" not being his type of project. ?Goyer was hired to do rewrites on the script, but is apparently taken such a liking to the character that the studio is interested in his vision of the film as a whole. ?Meetings have been set up with all of these potential directors, according to Superman-V. A look at Filmforce reveals that Singer was offered the directing job sometime last week. ?According to that article, Singer is still considering the offer. More "Superman" news as it develpos. |
