DOOM optioned by Universal Pictures! By Charley, (DT) June 4, 2004 11:31 AM PT |

Universal pictures has optioned the popular video game Doom, according to several sources. ?Despite previous failed attempts to turn the game into a movie, this latest try may prove fruitful. The producers have already signed Enda McCallion as director--a sure sign that they intend to make the movie. ?This will be McCallion's first film.
Warner Brothers lost their option on the Doom franchise earlier this year after they failed to act within the pre-determined 15 month period. ?At that time the rights were given back to id Software. Prior to WB, the rights had been optioned by Universal and Columbia-Tristar. ?Neither company ever started development on the movie. ?Maybe the second time is the charm for Universal. |
