Rocky VI: ?Stallone takes it on the chin from MGM

"It seems like we have most people on board for the next 'Rocky' film," Sylvester Stallone told the Chicago Sun-Times in 2003. ? MGM studios recently announced, however, that there will be no Rocky VI in the foreseeable future, despite the completed script that studio executives tapped Stallone to write.

MGM owns the rights to "Rocky," and they plan to keep it that way--a problem for Stallone, who wants to sell his script to another studio if MGM will not produce it. ?Stallone is contemplating legal action, a move that may produce good publicity for his upcoming NBC reality boxing television show, "The Contender."

But MGM has its own guns. ?The company announced that they plan to watch Stallone's show closely, making sure that their "Rocky" copyright is not infringed upon. ?Meanwhile, sources are reporting that MGM plans to release their own reality boxing show. ?Many news agencies are reporting that MGM may use the well-known Rocky franchise--including the Oscar-winning music from the first movie--to promote their show.
