X2 or X-Men United it's finally here. As a fan of Marvel Comics, I'm not disappointed with the treatment given to the characters (again, they look real enough) and also, entertained with the pack of action scenes during more than two hours. The whole movie kept me smiling, I was never bored, and I take that as a merit of Bryan Singer: he knows how to mix suspense with unreal fights. Specially great are the opening scene with Nightcrawler attacking the President, and also the aerial chase of the Blackbird, with the display of several powers.

The leading role goes, like in the prequel, to Wolverine; but with all the other characters, the story it's not entirely focussed on him. We can see, in a couple of cameos, Dr.Hank McCoy giving and interview about the mutant issue, Colossus using his power for an instant, the name Remy Lebeau (Gambit) on a list of most wanted, Shadowcat passing through the floor, Jubilee, and a lot more of the school's children. The relationship of Rogue and Iceman is developed (we know a little of his past too), like the "dark side" of Pyro; the flirt between Jean and Logan continues.

The main story takes place around a year later, with Wolverine coming back after he didn't found anything of his past, just in time to deal with crisis caused by Nightcrawler. The team splits: Professor Xavier and Cyclops go to see Magneto in the plastic prison to find what he knows about the assasination attempt, Jean and Ororo (Girl Power!) track Nightcrawler, and Wolverine stays in the mansion as a babysitter. At the same time, we see that Stryker, the bad guy controlling it all, persuades the President to launch a "preventive attack" again the school, with the info he gets from Magneto. Quickly, starts the big action, with Wolverine unleashed against the assault team, then heroes on the run, Xavier gets captured, Magnus escapes, and the X-Men and the Brotherhood joining forces to stop Stryker, condimented all of this with couples of chats and lots of FX.

Before giving another spoiler, I prefer to make some remarks about the actors:

Patrick Stewart / Professor Xavier: He's correct in his role, showing the he wasn't casted for being bald.

Ian McKellen / Magneto: When will this guy get an Oscar? Less lines than in the first movie, but he's the only one who can say those ironic comments after an impressive display of power.

Hugh Jackman / Wolverine: I still don't know if this guy is cool, or the character is, and he was just in the right time and the right place.

Halle Berry / Storm: She spent a few minutes on screen, but she's so gorgeus that you didn't notice that. Again, included in the best action scene.

Famke Janssen / Jean Grey: Sooooooo sexy... Major role in X3.

James Mardsen / Cyclops: Almost no time at all. But he will also have a major role in X3 too (get it, fans?)

Rebecca Romjin / Mystique: She's not a supporter in this one, but a leading character. Pay attention when she's transformed in a super-model.

Brian Cox / William Stryker: He plays an excellent bastard.

Alan Cummings / Nightcrawler: The guy's a buffoon. But fits perfectly in the character, whose teleporting scenes always saves the day.

Anna Paquin/ Rogue: Won an Oscar once, and shows why. Also, check when she's running on a neglige, she's no longer a teenager.

The boys playing Iceman and Pyro are good in their parts, like Kelly Hu as Yuriko, who says only three words but has a great fight with Wolverine.

In conclusion, it's fun, pure entertainment with fine FX, a perfect cast with a virtuose director. Quit of your head Matrix Reloaded or T3 for a while, it's not, like it isn't in the Top Ten of all movies ever. But along with the first one, it's still the best comic adaptation I have seen.
