A.I. - Spielberg's Strange Love By Jack, (DT) June 20, 2001 6:44 PM PT |

Stanley Kubrick took more than 15 years to perfect the screenplay for A.I. and it's finally ready to hit the screens next week. So it's time for the hype.
In an article with Time Magazine on the sci-fi tear jerker, there is somewhat of a comparison between Kubrick and Spielberg, among the comments is Jude Law saying that in Kubrick's original treatment his character was "much more aggressive, more twisted" whereas in the final film he's become Osment's "scoutmaster" according to Spielberg himself. The softening of the character in its development phase however has allowed the 160 minute long film to garner a PG-13 rating (Yes, the Kubrick version would have been rated R) Kubrick's producer Jan Harlan (who was directly involved with the development of the film), says that "I felt that Stanley really hadn't died, that he was with me when I was writing the screenplay and shooting the movie.", he also says "This will be a repeat of 2001, Some people will hate it. Never mind.". As a lot of you know Kubrick is my all time favorite director, I was worried that Steven Spielberg wouldn't do him justice but I now believe Spielberg can pull this off.
