Ang Lee Considered For Next Bond Film

(GUARDIAN, UK) Still struggling to ensure that his last Bond outing will be his "best ever" Pierce Brosnan has this week been playfully lobbying for Ang Lee to come on board as the film's director. The 20th official 007 movie goes into production later this year, with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson again producing and Brosnan in his swansong performance as the suave British agent.

How serious Brosnan is about Lee's involvement remains to be seen, though he concedes that the Crouching Tiger's insistence on final cut could pose problems. In Hollywood terms, the Bond series are usually directed by efficient craftsmen for hire who can be bossed around by the producers. Lee, by contrast, is an artist. "Final cut is a mighty thing to give up," Brosnan admits. "Barbara and Michael [Producers] and myself have work to be done."
