(Fox) While appearing in London for the premiere of Proof Of Life, Russell Crowe was threatened by gangsters to be kidnapped. This got the Gladiator more than a little scared.
Scotland Yard was "on the case," and the plot to kidnap Crowe was ultimately foiled.
"This threat was real and treated very seriously," a police source told the paper.
"They would have demanded a ransom of millions if they succeeded. Crowe took the threats extremely seriously. It's hard to imagine the man you see playing mighty Maximus in Gladiator being frightened ? but he was genuinely scared."
He attended the premiere of Proof Of Life in London in December, seemingly calm and collected, however he was being watched over by five body guards "all built like brick walls." They also had an elaborate plan to get him out of the area. Scotland Yard officers were also put on notice at the event.
Russell Crowe who is nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Gladiator, plays a kidnap hostage rescuer in Proof Of Life. |
