(Fox News) Matthew Perry, one of the stars of the hit sitcom Friends, is back in rehab after filming his upcoming movie Servicing Sarah with Elizabeth Hurley.
"Matthew has every intention of completing his treatment so that he can continue his dream of entertaining people and making them laugh," publicist Lisa Kasteler said, without going into specifics about Perry's problem.
Perry has had a history of drug abuse problems with prescription drugs, including the widely prescribed Vicodin, which he grew a taste for after a Jet Ski accident and playing on the Canadian national tennis circuit years back.
He has been checking in to various medical centers for treatments. Most recently, in April of last year he checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for what he described as severe stomach cramps.
There were fears at the time that the Vicodin had destroyed his liver and that he might need a transplant. But Perry later said he suffered from acute pancreatitis, a rare inflammation that can be caused by alcohol abuse and prescription drugs.
In recent months, Perry had worked hard to dispel his image as the party-hearty Good Time Charlie he admits he once was.
"I used to have a social life," he joked before going back into rehab. "Now, I sit in a chair playing [PlayStation2]. My pals have wondered what happened to me."
I for one like Matthew Perry as an actor, and he seems to be one of the better all around guys out there. I hope he gets through this one OK. |
