Hannibal Devours Competition

Ridley Scott's Hannibal easily beat out the competition this week, and became the third biggest opener of all time. ?Pulling in an estimated $58 million.

Hannibal was shy of the $72.1 million that The Lost World: Jurrasic Park grossed opening weekend in 1997, and the $68.4 million that the famed Star Wars: Episode I pulled in two years ago (Two years ago?! ?Seems like yesterday!).

This sequel to Silence Of The Lambs is reported by E! to be the biggest February opening ever, beating out Scream 3 from last year. ?It is also had the best turn out for an R rated movie on the opening weekend, beating out Scary Movie, also released last year.

A bit more good news. ?My favorite of the weekend, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, jumped up to the fourth place spot this week, pulling in $5.1 million -- pennies compared to Hannibal (but what can you say, Hannibal opened this weekend).
