Ah-nold For President By Acheron, (DT) February 9, 2001 12:01 PM PT |
(MSNBC)Ok, so maybe not for President, but Arnold Schwarzenegger is considering a run for the California governor's seat in the upcoming election, partly because of the energy crisis that Governor Gray Davis can't seem to get control of.
Schwarzenegger(R) apparently got pretty upset about an article that LA Times political columnist, George Skelton, wrote about current Gov. Davis' reelection prospects. ?So much so, that he called in from his movie set and spoke with Skelton about the problems with Davis' leadership and the energy crisis, and alluded that he may run for the political office.
?It?s upsetting to everyone right now. ... People are taking their companies out of state because they?re worried [about electricity]. ... And then someone cannot make up their mind what they really want to do. ... You cannot make great decisions if you?re just worried about your re-election,? said Schwarzenegger. It's not too surprising to me. ?Though I wouldn't say that I've been following Arnold's career closely, but I have noticed his growing interest in politics. ?So, even though this may be pure speculation, there's a good chance that he may run. ?He would not only be following Ron Reagan's footsteps in leaving the stage for politics, he would likely have some of Reagan's policies, as he sees Reagan as a role model. ?I saw in the last 10 years that I?m getting much more pleasure out of [helping people] than making money and making movies. And it?s increasing my desire to do that. It can lead ? and will lead, probably ? to some political office. I haven?t really said this is the time. But, you know, the bottom line is if Davis goes on the way he is ? then eventually there will be a vacuum in a year and I could,? Schwarzenegger told Skelton. I, for one think that he would make a great governor. ?He's knowledgable of the system and has a genuine interest in helping people, and there's a great problem in the state as it is right now. ?But hell, what do I know? ?I'm not even from California. ?So if there are any Californians in the audience that would care to chime in, then please feel free below. |
