Miramax To Release Film on Internet By Acheron, (DT) January 18, 2001 4:54 PM PT |

According to Yahoo! News, Miramax Films is set to release the romance "Guinevere" for rental over the Internet sometime next week. It will mark the first time a major film studio has done such a thing.
"Guinevere" was released in September 1999, and will be released on rental status January 22 by SightSound Technologies for 24 hour rental of $3.49. You can get it at http://www.guineverethemovie.com and Miramax and SightSound's web sites. "Guinevere" isn't the only movie that's going to be released either. Along with it, another 11 are scheduled to be released in the coming year. Those movies haven't been decided upon as of yet, but I'm sure they'll target the Internet savvy, and release some of the films based on that demographic. This is pretty cool. I'm curious how it will turn out. I'm not sure I want to wait to download it, and from what it sounds like, it's going to be piracy-proof, so they're not going to be ending up on IRC channels or anything. Would you pay to get a movie over the Net? Even if you could only have it for a day? |
