LOS ANGELES (January 2, 2001 8:08 a.m.?EST) - Benicio Del Toro believes that less is more when it comes to speaking on screen.? The 33-year-old actor, who appears in director Steven Soderbergh's drug-war epic "Traffic," said he often pushes to trim or eliminate his lines because he thinks they detract from his physical performance.? "I'm a firm believer that cinema is visuals and sound," he told the Los Angeles Times in an interview published Sunday.? Soderbergh compared Del Toro's performance to those found in great silent movies.? "Watching Benicio is like watching an actor in a D.W.?Griffith movie: He's so expressive, but not so much in what he says or the action -- he's just able to make the emotion so clear," the director said.? Traffic is currently playing in theatres, and should be seen by everyone. |
