Review: What Women Want By SKillBot, (DT) December 21, 2000 12:12 AM PT |
This isn't something I would usually go out to see.?But The Grinch was sold out, and the only thing showing that I would see with my mom was this movie.?(I couldn't convince her to wait two hours for the next showing of Proof of Life)
It started out with the story of a kid who grew up with Las Vegas showgirls, and turns into a womanizing advertising master.?So far, so good.?Then his company takes a turn for the worse, having to hire a female creative director in order to reach the growing consumer demographic of young women.?The horror! There's not much plot to be ruined, by the way.?This movie rides an interesting concept - as he's drunkenly trying on a box of feminine products, he gets shocked by his hair dryer and magically gets the ability to hear what women think.?From there, it gets a little stupid, but turns out to be an interesting story of a guy using his powers to enhance his career in its new direction...?and to get Marisa Tomei in bed. Then he finds out what an awful guy he is, and uses his ability to save his relationship with his daughter, make a bunch of people happy, save some dolphins from scraggy pirates, and fall madly in love with helen hunt's character at the end.?(if you couldn't see that happening from the movie poster, you needn't waste your brain power to complain) I was entertained, but this movie isn't for everyone.?No one gets naked, and there's a little bit of smot poking, which makes up for the gratuitous nike and apple ad placement.?You should certainly see it if you get trapped into seeing a chick flick and you have some choice in the matter. |
