The premiere day of Autumn in New York is finally here.?I wait anxiously in line to purchase my ticket.?Another sappy love story I was totally in the mood for.?At least that?s what the previews informed me.?I ended up sitting in the theatre with dry eyes, waiting impatiently for the movie to end.?I felt cheated.?I definitely wasn?t expecting to detect a slight Freudian feel as Richard Gere chats to his awfully young lover Winona Ryder about how he used to date her mother and how Winona?s laugh reminds him of her.?In the end, of course Winona dies.?Sorry to let the cat out of the bag, but I suggest blaming the preview for that.?Major lines spoken between the two lovers alluding to her death were already displayed in the preview.?
The point is, previews mislead and reveal too much of the plot.?Instead of whetting the appetite of a viewer it gives them a full meal and desert.?What else can I say? Previews just suck nowadays.? According to E! Online I?m not the only one who noticed.?However, the industry makes very little apologies.?The people in charge of the trailers aren?t usually aspiring to make art, their main concern is to sell the movie.?They even say that the trailers that they produce aren?t especially good but hey, they got an audience into the theater didn?t they? |
