Urticaria Treatment: dealing with the root cause

Urticaria treatment must be dealt with caution if you want to have lasting relief. Some treatment may take a few hours, while others will take several days, all depending on the type of urticaria that you are suffering.

Urticaria can be an painful and irritating experience if left untreated. The very first step towards treatment is to determine what have caused you to have urticaria. You may be allergic to something but have been unaware of it. You would want to recall and list down things you have done, or food you have eaten, before you began developing rashes on your skin.

Once you have correctly identified the agents that triggered your urticaria, it's high time you stay from those things. Once you see swellings and weals appearing on your skin, take a short dose of antihistamine. Commonly safe antihistamine are Benadryl and Cetrizine. Take note, however, that antihistamine may cause sedation, so be sure you won't be doing any activity that you will find risky, such as driving.

If these initial urticaria treatments does not bring relief, or if the rashes does not go away, you might want to consider taking oral steroids. Make sure you apply this with supervision.

For severe cases like chronic urticaria, it's time you visit your GP, or better yet, consult a dermatologist. They can perform further diagnosis on your skin to determine what better urticaria treatment applies to you.
