Adoption records are records that hold information about a child adoption. In most US states these records are sealed and no longer public once the child has been adopted. Birth parents and the adoptee sometimes are allowed to access their adoption records.

How to find adoption records for free.

While adoption records are sealed and not available to members of the general public, you ay be able to get access to them. In some states people can find adoption records for free through state's adoption agency or department. The records that can be obtained will not contain any identifying information in order to protect the welfare of all parties involved in the adoption.

The non identifying information that you can obtain may contain date and place of the adoptee birth, the age of the birth parents, reasons for placing the child for adoption, existence of any other children for both of the birth parents. In some US states a person can get full access to adoption records after they apply for authorization for release of the non identifying information.
