The Department of Health Vital Records is the government office that maintains health and vital records. Each state has its own health vital records office and if you need to obtain such records you should request them from there.

Each state has its own regulations regarding public records and the request procedures. For example if you need health state PA vital records, you can either request them by mailing your request form or by visiting the office.

Who may access vital records and health statistics.

In the US there are regulations governing the access to vital records and health statistics. While most of the records can be accessed by anyone, there are also some restrictions. For example PA dept of health vital records will release birth certificates only to the owner of the certificate, their legal representative, husband or wife, parent or step-parent, sister or brother, son or daughter, grand child and grand parent. The access to statistics is usually allowed for members of the general public without any restrictions.

You can also search for health and vital records without going to the department of health and vital records. Using an online public records database you can find records from your home or office.
