What is defensive driving and how it affects my driving record?

Defensive driving records concern defensive driving. A defensive driving record is the information regarding defensive driving schools or courses someone may have attended.

Defensive driving is in fact a way of driving where the drives follows strict rules that are making his experience on the road much safer. It employs several driving strategies that can contribute to the overall safety of traffic as well as to compensate for the mistakes or the careless driving of others.

People can sign in defensive driving classes if they want to improve their driving skills. In some occasions people are forced to attend such classes - usually after a heavy traffic violation.

Is defensive driving record public?

What is interesting to know is that defensive driving doesn't include new rules - all the rules are already part of the traffic regulations and rules. However defensive driving specifically emphasize on those that are usually neglected by drivers and comprise the majority of traffic violations -speeding for example.

If you choose to go to a defensive driving school in order to improve your driving skills, this will not be included in your driving record. However if you make a serious traffic violation and you are sentenced to attend defensive driving classes, the violation and the sentence of the traffic court will be included in your defensive driving record. Sometimes you do not need to make a serious traffic violation - small penalties are enough to take you to defensive driving school if you make them often.
