Free personal driving records - online search vs. the traditional approach

A personal driving record is your file of driving history. Personal driving records are public and are common part of any background search. Individuals, future employers and businesses are the parties usually interested in personal driving records.

There are two ways to get a driving record - online or by going to the local Department of Motor Vehicles. The question however is not how but is it possible to obtain free personal driving records. The answer is no - both online services and DMVs require payment. The difference however is that online services are much cheaper and that you can perform unlimited number of public record searches paying just one small fee. On the other hand local registries require payment for every public record request that you make.

How long a personal driving record holds information regarding traffic violations?

Since your driving record contains all the information about your history on the road, you may be interested in the time span of each penalty. Indeed, some traffic violations are erased from public records after a few years. However other cannot be cleaned or removed. Traffic violations that are never removed from your driving record are driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, participating in an accident and driving away, etc. so if you have done any of these in the past you cannot expect that they will be omitted of your driving record.
