Tracking Cell Phone Numbers By GPS

Many different methods exist for people to track you down using a GPS:


  1. Your landline or cell phone.
  2. An external GPS device.
  3. GPS software that you have on your PC or smart phone.


Let us now examine each of these tactics individually:



Your Landline or Cell Phone:

A law called "Enhanced 911 Wireless Services" or "E911" for short has been developed by wireless networks in cooperation with an FCC mandate to provide support for people in a crisis situation.


There is not much that you can do to avoid the GPS tracking facility enacted under this law, though you could always just turn your phone off and keep from carrying it around with you wherever you go (though this admittedly may be unrealistic). Fortunately, this service also introduces a tool that can be used to protect wireless phone users from having their privacy invaded.


This feature differs from a cell phone tracker as it isn't used to identify a person and list their address based on a cell phone number, instead providing emergency responders a cell phone user's physical location in real-time.



An external GPS device or GPS software you have on your PC or phone:

GPS trackers of all sorts have infiltrated the marketplace, enabling another person to install a piece of hardware or software on your phone unbeknownst to you for the purpose of tracking you from any PC containing the appropriate software. For instance, some of these programs will show your real-time movements (including where you stopped and for how long you stayed there) displayed either on a map or using a verbal/text summary.


Many people voluntarily install such devices as a precautionary measure to keep tabs on their spouse, child, aging parents, etc. in order to keep them safe in case of an emergency.
Again, this tool is different from your standard cell phone tracker in that they don't reveal to you a person's name and address based on their cell phone number, but rather a person's physical location at the time of inquiry.


To minimize the risk of a person using a GPS to track you down:


  • Monitor and research all new and unknown hardware or software appearing on your telephone or PC. If the hardware is a GPS tracing device, look under your cell phone's battery cover to find it.
  • Ask your telephone provider whether your account includes a GPS Tracking by Cell Phone | Cell Phone Trackertracking/monitoring feature, possibly set up by another member of your family or someone unknown to you who pretended to be you in order to set up such a tool.
  • Don't let your phone leave your sight, as many of these tracking programs and devices can only be installed via direct physical contact with your device.
  • Communicate with people you know who you may suspect of trying to track you and ask them to discuss their reasons openly.
  • Turn your telephone off when not in use, though this only prevents software from tracking you, but doesn't work for squelching tracking hardware.
