What is a criminal docket?

Criminal dockets and a criminal court docket are terms with similar but yet different meaning. A criminal docket is in fact the schedule of hearings in a court. It is an old term still used formally today. A criminal docket on the other hand is used to refer to the public record of any person who has crime history.

A criminal docket contains all information about someone's law-breaking episodes:

• when was the arrest


• why was the person arrested


• at which court the hearing was


• how the person pleaded


• what was courts decision - guilty or not guilty


• what was the sentence and when was the person released

All the data is listed chronologically. Additional information about the person's address, race, gender, age, is also contained in a criminal docket.

Where to start if you need to make a criminal docket search.

A criminal docket search used to be a hard task in the past. The information was kept in paper files regionally so you would have to go to the local police station, dig in dusty folders all day and hope that you will find what you need there. City halls and district local authority also used to keep some of the records so a search could have taken you at least several days.

Today those files are computerized and you can make a criminal docket search from the comfort of your home. Just log in a good public record database and enter the name of the person whose past you are interested in.
