I couldn't agree more with Wescoat. I just saw this movie and don't recall ever leaving a movie in such a rage. I'm tired of hearing those who loved it say I must have hated it due to the ending. NOT TRUE!! I hated it WAY before the ending. I was a sucker. I went after the Oscars thinking 'surely this gets better...it got best picture! But no. I felt I was on a journey to nowhere. I usually love the Coen Bros. - Big Lebowski is one of my favorites and gets funnier each time I see it - which is why I loved what you said - Upon subsequent viewings, my mind began to understand, to learn what they were doing, and I came to love them on an impossibly deep level - YES!! And I agree that I will never see this again. The violence was so unecessary to tell whatever story was supposed to be told. Why didn't this fall into the 'horror' category? Think about the emotions you had the last time you saw a Friday the 13th movie and tell me the difference in what you felt!!! Nothing.
