Poor Sofia! "Stupid people... one day the world will realize what a genius move I made with 'Marie Antoinette." Interviewed countless times regarding her 'bold and daring' treatment of the material, Coppola has failed to deliver upon what she had set out to do: reveal the woman, and the queen, behind the myth. Instead, she only perpetuates the myth. Never once do we feel Dunst's MA is queen of the most powerful nation in Europe. Nor do we understand why it is the public called for her blood. The film views like a slick montage of well-dressed tourists sleepwalking through a museum while personnel rushes cast and crew along so as not to delay the public's admittance. Gotta pay the rent after all! And what of the little princess Marie Therese? What a prodigy! She speaks French! I wonder whether or not her English speaking mum could understand her? Sofia, your ego has got the best of you. We the  cinema-going public can certainly appreciate originality or innovation when we see it. WHEN WE SEE IT. Shame on you, Sofia.
