Really, if you believe it to be so simple to act well then you must live in a fantasy world.

You should really try directing actors for film at least once... you'll quickly see that it takes a very special talent for a performer to act well, and yes--I would say it takes a level of genius to not only act well but also consistently create new believable characters.

Johnny Depp's range of ability is mind-blowing from a professional point of view. Stop and think about the variety of characters he's portrayed, each one defined by personality traits he's given them, that he's cultivated based on the script. The script is lifeless without the 'genius' of a talented actor.
