I haven't asked Mike Wilson personally but if I were to guess I'd say he's probably libertarian.  Libertarians DON'T belong to either the left or the right yet they are often confused by those who consider themselves of the left or right to belong of  to the "other side".  Libertarians are looked at as curious and annoying creatures who most everyone would agree should just "go away".  They get this treatment for making both ends of the political spectrum feel unconfortable by questioning almost all political activity comming from both the left and the right.  Libertarians are congenial synics and rely on research and investigation using a scientific outlook to question and conclude their opinions.  The left and the right hate this kind of nit-picky attitude and often exclude more serious Libertarian politics from their political debates.

It is almost blindingly clear that both the left and right rely on passion with minimal intellectual rigour to back their claims. They almost always feel strongly about a particular stance or point of view but will often forget why they feel that way. It's just conveniant to at some point and it "feels good" just to belong to their respective groups.
