Yeah, there are comics like that, and I've only bought the Aliens one because it had awesome artwork by the Legendary Bernie Wrightson.  Wrightson who got his start illustrating horror comics for EC, DC, and others--has the ability to bring out the vampire in Batman, which is what he really is in some ways (part Lugosi in Dracula part Tyrone Powers in Zorro).  His drawings truly look American gothic and have a dash of a japanese influence to them.  But still, the story, I felt, hell the concept, was not faithful to either franchises--Batman or Aliens.  However, you're right, I should say some positive things about Dead End...I did feel that the gadgetry was more in line with what Batman would use, than those weapons presented in the films.  Also, directors seem to reduce Batman to one genre, typically Film Noir--which is understandable, but they forget that Batman's also, horror, also Sci-fiction, fantasy--and Collora did a fantastic job of bringing out the Sci-Fi elements of Batman's world, which have only been touched on with the recent illustration work of Jim Lee on the Hush series, and with the Batman Beyond series (which was really a spin off of Pepe Moreno's awesome Digital Justice graphic novel.)  So yes, I felt that the mood, atmosphere, and overall look was much fresher...but the film seemed like something I'd see in a 290 class project.
