the reason why they couldn't save frodo i think is because the wound on weathertop was too deep and there really was no cure for its effects (they more or less slowed it down). Cons: The first 15-30 minutes seemed a bit choppy or stuffed in.  I particularly had something against the musical score when they opened the scene in Rohan (fast forwarded version of the rohan theme is very unnattractive.) As well, I thought it was sort of unsual of how Peter jackson chose to make the ending as accurately as possible (exception of Saruman) because it's the ending that seems to drag on.  They kind of went overboard trying to show up the tension between gollum/sam/frodo. They could've showed the houses of healing, theoden and eomer on peleannor, or Saruman's bit to replace this because the 3.2 hours seems incomplete.  Aside from these minor issues, this movie was ultimately satisfying! I really like the part with the Haradrim and their Mumakil entering the battle.
