This is what I make of the matrix and it?s concepts. The actual message can be very different...it?s just how I perceive it :P. enjoy!


1. ABOUT NEO: Neo is not a software. He is a human being, a rather smart computer program hacker whose consciousness roams in the matrix. He is just another trapped human in the matrix who happens to have a superior understanding of the machine?s intelligence. However he is unique in the sense that he is the sample human being the machine has chosen to make conscious choices.

2. THE ARCHITECT: The purpose of the architect is to run a smooth system free of anomalies. He is an artificial entity employed by the machine to maintain harmony that is to make sure the trapped humans keep on dreaming, so that the machine remains powered. The precision inclined view of the architect contradicts with Neo, since neo makes choices based on emotions, not rationality. However, architect is still interested to learn what makes neo make such choices, because he himself is unable to look past any choices, he is only good at balancing the equations of the matrix. So he uses the knowledge that he learns from Neo to make better dreams. Without lifelike dreams, the matrix world would become a nightmare, the inhabitants would kill themselves, and that way machine would lose it?s steady flow of energy. This is why Neo is important to the machine. From Neo the machine tries to learn the usefulness of hope, love and the choices that result from those. This is why at the end, instead of being killed, Neo is consumed by the machine, completely integrating with it. The last five times Neo was created, he did not return to the source, and zyon was destroyed. This time he blended with the machine, evident, as he could not be differentiated from the glowing electricity of the machine at the end of the trilogy. Unlike when he first walked in to meet the Over machine, he was a man of flesh visible as a dark figure against the luminous electricity of the machine. As Neo said to the architect at the end of the reloaded ?If I were you, I?d hope that we would not meet again?, and the architect said, ?we won?t?. We now realize why not.

3. THE FRENCHMAN: The Frenchman Mervengien occupied the position of the architect once. However, he was put to exile by the machine, because with his hedonistic bias, and his obsession with power, he was making the matrix unstable. Being human, he is an example of how absolute power corrupts absolutely. However, he is powerful enough to maintain his presence in the matrix despite his banishment and successful in retaining and manipulating the knowledge of all five previous matrix generations. He is capable of granting refuge to other software in exile, a demonstration of his ability to elude the control of the matrix. Denied of his position, he does not want to help the machine anymore. But he is also not ready to help humans because he thinks he is more deserving than any human to control the matrix. Therefore he refuses to hand over the keymaker to the humans.

4. THE ORACLE: Oracle is also a creation of the machine; she was created to learn the intricacies of human psyche. To interact with humans, she carries the traits of empathy, like all humans, she loves freedom. She wants to see the humans free. She prefers anomalies in the matrix because humans are by nature anomalous. Having human characteristics, a system that conforms to anomalies, not discordant with it, is more natural to her. She always stimulates the humane part of Neo, the candy that she offers to Neo is actually a stimulant that helps neo to make more humane choices. Neo refuses to take the candy later on, and therefore his connections with the machine grows stronger; neo becomes more rational and intent on returning to the source, deeming it the inevitable action to be taken in order to save zyon.

5. SMITH: The machine created Smith as an agent, to block the attempts of the rebels to free matrix inhabitants. After Neo destroyed him, his leftovers was merged with Neo to some extent, this caused him to be free and not a part of the matrix anymore. He gained some abilities including the ability to copy himself etc. A loose cannon, he started to simulate his definition of human behavior, survival through multiplication and consumption of resources, eventually taking over the matrix. Smith believes that the purpose of all things is to end. He grew up on the pessimistic and negative aspects of Neo, promoting chaos. However, his ambition and propensity towards chaos became a natural threat to the machine, since he was now expanding his power in both machine world and the matrix, with an aim to put everything to end.

6. SATI: Software are exiled from the matrix, when they are antiquated or when they choose to explore the matrix to learn new things and to contribute with the things they have learned. Or they can return to the source. Sati the little girl was such a software who with her parents learnt about love from Neo.

7. THE PURPOSE OF THE MACHINE: The triumph of Smith has taught the machine that the dark side of a free consciousness is formidable when combined with the logic and efficiency of machine. Though the introduction of a savior is essential to improve and sustain the quality of dreamworld, it comes with the risk of accidents like Smith, those the machine cannot afford. In this stalemate condition, the machine is skeptic about the transient peace rejoiced by humans. Because it still wants to understand the choices the one makes and how those choices empower him, so that it can prevent such ?the ones? from arising to defend zyon in the future, and can also make superior but controllable agents to cope with such rebels. So the purpose of the machine is to control good and to tame evil, and survive in the process of doing it.
