I think that the previous poster was not claiming that Catholics weren't truly Christians.  I think he or she meant that most American Catholics are so poorly taught these days, by priests and other church leaders who are afraid of giving offense, that the average American who describes himself or herself as a Catholic may not believe in such things as the Trinity or the Resurrection.  Perhaps an exaggeration, but I think he or she makes a good point.  Vatican II was a very good thing for the Church, but in its implementation, a lot of people thought they didn't have to catechize or evangelize any more.  Something important needs to be reclaimed and brought back into the Church.
