Topic: News The Tons O' Movie Sequels In the Works

By Power-trip on 2002-04-23 12:33:21

Dark Horizons reports the following movie sequels news: ?

Variety has just run a big article on numerous sequels in the works to some recent hits.

Chris and Paul Weitz who recently worked on Hugh Grant's "About a Boy" have been brought in to re-write Jim Herzfeld's script for "Meet The Fockers", the sequel to the Ben Stiller comedy "Meet the Parents" and Universal is pushing it to be the next film of its key players (Stiller, De Niro & Roach).

Warners and Roadshow have 'quietly' gotten "Ocean's Eleven" scribe Ted Griffin to pen a sequel to the Clooney led heist caper but at the moment its still just an idea more than anything.

MGM has hired scribe Leslie Dixon to write a second installment of the recent Pierce Brosnan/Rene Russo remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair".

New Line has officially commissioned David Goyer to pen "Blade III", whilst is also exploring the possibility of a sequel to "Se7en" which would involve the return of Morgan Freeman's character in a new story that looks likely to be a reworking of the Ted Griffin and Sean Bailey script "Solace" about a cop tracking a psychic serial killer (New Line bought the script last year).

Freeman may be busy though as Paramount and producers David Brown and Joe Wizan continue ahead with a third Alex Cross adventure "Roses are Red" based on James Patterson's novel.

Finally, Universal is bringing in Adam Herz to write a third "American Pie" flick and Tom Stoppard is up for the "Indiana Jones IV" script writing duties depending upon his "Tulip Fever" commitments.

And lastly, Mel Gibson confirmed that he is interested in returning to the title character in "Mad Max 4." Gibson stated that he is waiting for the studio to work out the details.
