Review: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

Jay and Slient Bob are back in Kevin Smith's final episode of the New Jersey Chronicles.  So, was it up to par with the other Smith stories?

The Story:

Jay and Silent Bob find out that Miramax got the rights to the Bluntman and Chronic comic book series, of which they were the inspiration, and are filming a movie based on the comic.  They, however, were not told of this, and are receiving no money whatsoever.  They also find out that Internet movie geeks are flaming the movie and flaming them, and they want to put a stop to it by stopping the movie.  So, they make the trek from Jersey to Hollywood to throw a monkeywrench into the gears, and save their reputation.

Commentary:

This movie is the last episode in what was a mostly strong series (save Mallrats).  Here's the gist:  if you liked Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma, then you'll most likely like this movie.  If you're a movie geek, then you'll like this movie because of all the film references.  If you like crass humor, then this will be your favorite movie of the summer.  

It's not quite as strong as the other Kevin Smith movies, but it's still very entertaining.  It's full of low brow humor, an amazing list of cameos (including, but not limited to 95% of the major players in all the other Smith films), and more movie references than you could possibly ask for.  The cinematography and plot are nothing to write home about, but then again we're talking about a dumb comedy.

Conclusion: 7.0/10.0

All in all, this was a funny movie, but you will probably be left wondering how Kevin Smith spent $20 million making this film.  If you're offended by foul language or humor with sexual overtones, the skip this movie, because you'll be in for roughly 2 hours of pure hell.
