I've studied martial arts for about 4.5 years now (Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do, and Judo) And I've studied movies for about 40 years.  To be honest, I have never understood the appeal of Hong Kong martial arts flicks.  


I like the Jackie Chan movies because NOBODY dies (well, not too many), he is funny and incredibly athletic.  His movies are live action cartoons.  But even HIS films made for Chinese audiences leave me cold (except for Double Dragon).  To be honest though, he is nearing the end of his career as a martial arts movie star, though not as regular movie star.



I saw Kiss of the Dragon and a couple of Jet Li's other older films I can't remember the names. Kiss of the Dragon was much better.



I think both have benefitted from the better production values and more rigid adherence to plot found in the western cinema.
