Review: Kiss of the Dragon

Jet Li's new action movie, Kiss of the Dragon, was expected to be a great action flick and nothing more.  It delivered as expected.  

Following a pretty generic action movie plot base, KOTD offered entertainment, but little else.  Jet Li plays Liu Jian, a Chinese cop (the best in the business, of course), who is sent to my favorite city, Paris, to investigate a Chinese businessman.  While on the assignment, he becomes a victim of a conspiracy started by Jean-Pierre Richard (Tch?ky Karyo),the top French cop.  To clear his name (or get out of the country), he has to overcome unthinkable hurdles.  With the help of junkie/hooker, Jessica (Bridget Fonda), he somehow manages to do so.

This movie is a great action flick.  If you're a fan of Jet Li's previous films, then you'll like this one.  The fight sequences are choreographed nicely, and the cinematography was well done.  It is violent and gory, and deserves every bit of the 'R' rating that it received.  Jet Li even stated that it wasn't for children, even under parental supervision.  Don't look for Oscar worthy dialog, plot or performances.  Go in looking for what you would expect out of a martial arts movie, and you'll leave satisfied.

Conclusion: 7.0/10.0  An intense action film, but lacks originality.  It is very gory, so it's probably best not to bring along the kids.
