I'll agree only to a certain extent - this was an interresting film to watch.  The ending left a bit to be desired, and there were a few times I wished Spielberg would have remembered that he needs to entertain, even while he tells his story and develops his characters (thank goodness for Teddy).  However, it did lack for originality, Spielberg's not really treading any new ground here.  It seems that in making his vision look realistic on screen, he ignored the lessons of the robot pioneers; ie, Asimov, Phillip K. Dick, both of which, have already told this story, Asimov having the difinitive vison.  The androids (Mechas) we see on screen in this movie strike me as nothing more than characters of a hi-tech/big budget fable (should be great for kids ages 8-14), and the "live" characters(Orgas) are portrayed with all the  emotion of a toaster.  I almost wished that by the end of the film we would recieve a surprise in Rod Serling fashion, and discover that the Mother is the actual android - that would have been fun.
    Also,  if you're looking for signs of  Kubrick's ghost in this film, you're not going to find it here.  I saw nothing of his inspiration in this film, The late director's genious is nowhere to be found.  This film is  all Spielberg from start to finish.  Provocative? Yes, Enjoyable? Sure. But it's nothing we haven't seen or read before. 7 out of 10.
