Ok, this is my thoughts of the whole debacle.

The eight seasons so far have been Mulder and Scully's story. How they worked together, their relationship, their mythology, the conspiracy, the whole story. And with that last kiss in Existence, their story is over. It's now Doggett and Reyes' story now, with Scully seemingly a mentor.

I can't say I'm enthusiastic about Mulder leaving and his appearance in season 8, but I still want to watch Doggett and Reyes, provided Mulder does a cameo every once in a while.

But it makes sense that Mulder would leave now; I mean, what would he do? Keep on helping the guys with his own X-Files ideas, running around doing things he's not supposed to. Well, he would do that, but the story would get old.

Besides, where do you go with a story such as Mulder's is now? His search for Samantha is way over, his conspiracy quest is over, and all that is left is the side stories. And now that Mulder's completely out of the FBI, for what seems like good, what is there left to do but protect Scully and her baby and continue with a different life?

Ahh... That's my two cents.
