What is really going on here? Robert Downey, a gifted man, is trying to destroy himself. Again and again. But why would a 35 year-old man at the top of his game want to destroy it all? Because he's under too much pressure and because there is deep, unresolved anger. I saw him on ALLY McBEAL the other night and it's plain as day he knows he's on a pop-crap TV show. I'm sure he's happy to have the paycheck, but he knows he's better than it (so is Calista Flockhart). We say, why is he doing that piece of crap? Well, for the same reasons you and I take a job. We need the money. We forget that actors are human beings with the same needs and desires and problems as the rest of us. And yet, we dehumanize them. Just look at these posts. We slander them, sling crap at them. Christ. No wonder he has a drug problem. You people don't understand how dedicated most of these actors are, how hard it is to achieve what they achieve. They take years of rejection and create careers out of it. But it's so hard on the mind that often the body cracks under the strain. This is what's happening to Downey. I respect him and I'm pulling for him.
