Aronofsky and genre films

In an interview with SciFi, Darren Aronofsky said that his situation to direct the proposed Batman: Year One, is still in the limbo of a decision.

"Nothing's green-lit," said Aronofsky. "We've been talking to Warner Brothers for a long time. It looks like me and [comic writer] Frank Miller [who wrote the comic on which the movie is based] are going to write a [script] draft, and then we'll see what happens."

Aside from the current batty situation, Aronofsky has a few other genre films in the works. "I'm also writing an original science fiction film that I've been working on for about 10 months with my roommate from college, a guy named Ari Handle. It's an original science fiction film that we've been writing, and we're going to set it up soon. We're going to push everything forward, and see what happens first."

Aronofsky's other projects include a feature film based on Miller's futuristic samurai comic Ronin and Proteus, a submarine-meets-sea-monster movie. "Proteus is actually happening," Aronofsky said. "I'm not going to direct it. I'm going to produce it with Eric Watson, my producing partner. We'll be producing it in partnership with Dimension Films. And David Twohy, the guy who wrote and directed Pitch Black, is going to direct it. I think that's going through soon; it should be a lot of fun."

And for those of you in the Portland, Oregon area, Aronofsky's Requiem for a Dream is currently playing in Cinema 21. And according to a few film critics, the film is "virtually a continual montage which apparently has more single cuts than any mainstream feature ever made."
