A.O. Scott of the New York Times writes, "Syriana,' written and directed by Stephen Gaghan (who also wrote 'Traffic,' its obvious precursor), is a movie that demands and rewards close attention. Loosely based on the memoirs of a C.I.A. veteran, Robert Baer, on whom Mr. Clooney's character is modeled, it aims to be a great deal more than a standard geopolitical thriller and thereby succeeds in being one of the best geopolitical thrillers in a very long time." ?Click over for the rest of the review.

Rope of Silicon has a teaser trailer for yet another low-rent video game adaptation. "DOA: Dead or Alive" wants so badly to be "Kill Bill," but it looks more like a late-night USA original movie. It does, however, contain scantily clad women kicking ass, often wearing wet clothing. No thanks are necessary.
