Last week it came out that Issac Hayes (Chef) had quit over the show's treatment of religious issues (something they've always been really good about before, right). ?Later in the week, rumors began spreading that Scientology dark overload Tom Cruise had pressured Comedy Central to pull a new episode that supposedly beat up on his religion (what was actually pulled was a repeat of an episode that aired earlier in the season). ?Here's that earlier episode. ? Kirk Honeycutt of the Hollywood Reporter writes, "Everything clicks. It has a solid, substantial marquee cast in Denzel Washington, Clive Owen and Jodie Foster; a cagey, even at times -- for a thriller -- thoughtful screenplay by Russell Gewirtz; and a production beautifully calibrated for its story and stars. This is the mother lode all action/suspense directors search for and Lee, who usually doesn't work in that genre, has hit it." ? Sounds good. ?Dtheatre has been waiting for Spike's return to form. ?Click away for the rest of the review.

Gondry has directed countless, wacky music videos for likes of Bjork and the White Stripes and broke into the feature film racket with the underappreciated Human Nature (Tim Robbins flick about a man raised by wolves), hit it big with '04's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and is approaching full-steam-ahead with his new piece, The Science of Sleep. ? Andrew O'Hehir of Salon.com writes, "A Prairie Home Companion is both loopy and dense, taking Keillor's nostalgic and geeky radio program and making it even cornier and more sentimental than it is in reality -- and somehow, that's perfect." ?APHC has a huge cast (Woody Harrelson, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Kline, Lindsay Lohan, Virginia Madsen, John C. Reilly, Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Robin William). Click on for the rest of the review from Salon.com.

John DeFore of the Hollywood Reporter writes, "In a political environment that can brew controversy out of allegorical children's fables or a documentary about penguins, it is hard to imagine the intensity of feeling that will greet "V for Vendetta," a movie whose heroes are terrorists. One foresees news talk shows in which red-faced pundits denounce the filmmakers and call for boycotts. Given a film as entertaining and solidly crafted as this one, such attention could turn into strong boxoffice." ?Click for the rest of his solid review of V (which opens Thursday @ midnight).
