Sci-Fi is pulling a smart one. ?They've put up the pilot episode of a new animated series on their website and are asking the people to watch and vote on the future of the show. ?The Amazing Screw-On Head stars the voices of Paul Giamatti (Lady in the Water, Sideways, American Splendor, Cinderella Man), David Hyde Pierce (Frazier) and Molly Shannon (SNL) and is about Abraham Lincoln's top spy; a man with a screw-on head. Enough said. Click for links to the show and comic.

A teaser trailer for the indie disaster flick, Right At Your Door, is online. ?This recent spat of Lost-like, end of the world (as we know it) drama scenarios is getting a little crazy. ?Too much disaster fiction is one thing, but these days it actually feels like that out there. ?Right At Your Door looks well made (directed by the production designer of Minority Report and other flicks), but a little too fucking real for us at the moment. After reading a new, positive review of the film, we're a little interested. ?Though the vibe of the ad campaign isn't exactly selling it well, we're sure the people will come out to see Jamie Foxx fight sexy, darkly lit, Jay-Z-a-fied Miami crime. ?Michael Mann is a solid director albiet a nutty, over-indulgent one that occassionally forgets about his audience, but solid nonetheless. ? Pirates. Who loves 'em? You do, apparently. A lot. So much so that you gave Pirates of the Caribbean 2 the largest single weekend gross of all damn time. Better than Spider-Man 2. Pirates blew Superman Returns out of the water. While still doing well, Supe's weekend grossing abilities shrank considerably (the water was cold). Click over for the numbers.

Manohla Dargis of the NY Times writes, "A Scanner Darkly' has a kind of hypnotic visual appeal, and there's something very appropriate in how a chair in Bob Arctor's kitchen appears to hover above the floor, replicating the kind of time-space visual dislocations that can be produced through the consumption of hallucinogens." ?Click on...

Our pal Kirk Honeycutt of the Hollywood Reporter writes, "Depp is less a swashbuckler than a swishbuckler as he prances and preens through the movie with a bemused scowl on his face and the devil-may-care attitude of a hero who knows things will turn out well. He is the comic gel that holds the whole enterprise together. The performance is a total delight that somehow combines Bugs Bunny, Peter Pan and Charlie Chaplin." ?Click on for the full review.

NBC/Universal seems to be working hard to bump it's geek hipness up a notch during the TV off-season. It recently signed a deal with YouTube to "help" debut its upcoming fall season and just announced a new project that sounds cool. "Lipshitz Saves the World" is described by writer, Dan Fogelman (wr.
